Process Engineering and Scale-Up
The workpackage, led by DTU, aims to develop suitable down-scale systems for developing and evaluating the cascade systems and catalysts develop in WP 1-3 and 6.
Then a process evaluation of the system will identify the relevant and critical parameters for a successful process. These parameters include:
· Thermodynamic equilibrium
· Catalyst activity
· Catalyst stability at process conditions
· Catalyst kinetic profile including inhibition pattern
Experimental as well as computerbase methods are developed and used to assess these parameters.
In the final step selected processes will be scaled up to identify potential hurdles that need to be overcome and to develop measures (eg reactor selection) to address these challenges. Scale up implies not only to increase the volume of the process but more importantly to increase the concentrations of product to industrially relevant levels.
